Economic affairs’ minister misinterpreted NC’s stand on BOiC- NCThe Deputy Chairperson of the National Council, Tshering Dorji said the economic affairs minister, Norbu Wangchuk, had misinterpreted NC’s stand on issues surrounding Business Opportunity and Information Centre (BOiC).

The government’s plan to dissolve BOiC and convert it into State Owned Enterprise has trigged the debate again.

Deputy Chairperson, Tshering Dorji, in the National Council, today was talking about the LIVE discussion BBS had held, last week.

During the panel discussion, Lyonpo Norbu Wangchuk said none of the MPs, from both the houses, had pointed out about the legality surrounding the establishment of BOiC when the government had presented the plan.

“We expressed concerns from the very beginning. We even questioned the Prime Minister during a Question Hour, as far back as the 13th session, when there were talks about establishing BOiC,” said the Deputy Chairperson.

Tshering Dorji said when the National Council questioned the legality of BOiC, at that time, but they did not receive a clear answer. “The Prime Minister told us that the issue will be discussed later.” He said they waited for more than six months for the government to engage. “But the government went ahead and established BOiC.”

He also clarified that they forwarded the case to His Majesty the King as per the Constitution.

The Constitution states, besides its legislative functions, the National Council shall act as the House of review on matters affecting the security and sovereignty of the country and the interests of the nation and the people that need to be brought to the notice of the Druk Gyalpo, the Prime Minister and the National Assembly.
