MonkBody-WinterREsidenceUnlike in the past, the Central Monk Body, led by Dorji Lopen, left for their winter residence on foot, today. They will be walking about nine hours a day for three days, to reach Punakha from Thimphu. The Zhung Dratshang left Tashichhodzong at 6 AM.

The initiative is to commemorate the 60th Birth Anniversary of His Majesty the Fourth Druk Gyalpo. It is also to pay tribute to Zhabdrung’s arrival in Bhutan 400 years ago.

They will halt for the night at Hongtsho. The second halt will be at Thinleygang. The monk body is expected to reach Puna Dewa Chenpai Phodrang on Thursday.

Hundreds of people have lined up at various places to receive the blessings.
