Relocation of central school disappoints Norboogang community

Relocation of central school disappoints Norboogang communityPeople of Norboogang expressed disappointment over the government’s decision to relocate the new central school to Tashichhoeling Gewog, some 40 kilometres from Norboogang.

The decision was unforeseen since there was no official correspondence between the education ministry and the gewog administration.

The education ministry did not have any clear-cut answers when people demanded clarification. One Norboogang resident, Mani Kumar Ghalley said, it was upsetting since the ministry did not even discuss with the gewog and the people.

Like Mani Kumar, many others are full of questions.

People said they came to know about the relocation when works were stopped at the site following a telephone instruction from the education ministry to change the plan.

Norboogang Gup Kinga Wangdi said, the gewog was not aware of the decision, and there were no official correspondences with the ministry.

Earlier, the ministry had signed a contract agreement and issued work order to a construction company who was meant to stay in Norboogang and build the project.

The Norboogang community however, remains adamant in letting go of the project. Many of them had contributed labour by clearing the area for the project. We willingly contributed our labour because we felt the project would benefit us, said one of the resident.

The Nu 130 Million Norboogang Middle Secondary School is a Government of India funded project whose work order and contract agreement were issued in August this year.
