23 army personnel to build bridges in Laya

23 army personnel to build bridges in LayaUpon the Royal Command, a team of 23 army personnel left Gasa this morning to various locations in Laya to rebuild the bridges that were washed away by Lemthang tsho outburst in Laya on Sunday evening. The group will reach Tongchudrak tonight.

A total of six wooden bridges were washed away cutting off Laya from the rest of the dzongkhag.

Laya Gup, Kinley Dorji said the lake outburst washed away Bazi, Pazhi, Lhupja, and Baru Zams.

Tongchudrak Zam, which is three hours away from Laya towards Gasa and the Lemthang Zam near the lake were also washed away.

Gasa Dzongdag, Dorji Dhradhul said though the bridges were small, it is vital in connecting Laya with the rest of the dzongkhag.
