National Basketball men’s team gearing up for South Asian ChampionshipBhutan National men’s Basketball team is gearing up for the fourth South Asian Basketball Championship, in Bengaluru, India from July 3-5. The championship will determine which team from South Asian Basketball Association will qualify for the 28th International Basketball Federation Asian Championship.

The players has been preparing for the tournament for four months. They practice four hours daily at the swimming pool complex in Thimphu.

The Head Coach, Tenzin Jamtsho said with the additional coaches assisting in different fields, this team is the best-prepared team that the federation has had. “I am expecting a lot this year because working out with four coaches will result a better outcome.”

The team was also in the Philippines in April for practice.

“I won’t say we are going to win it all. That is being over-ambitious. But we definitely are hoping of getting Bhutan’s first win,” said the team captain, Chimmi Wangchuk. He also said a few players are down with injuries. “Hopefully they will feel better or heal in coming days.”

Bhutan, India, Bangladesh, the Maldives, Nepal and Sri Lanka are set to take part in the qualifiers.
