NC discusses employment

NC discusses employmentEducational institutions and employing agencies need to chart out a long term human resource plan to ensure demand and supply of human resource is matched, according to the National Council.

The discussion came up in the Upper House, today, while they were deliberating preliminary report on the review of National Employment Policy, Programme, and Strategies.

The Chairman of the Social and Cultural Affairs Committee, Nima presented the preliminary report. It included national employment policy 2013, the overseas employment programme, the guaranteed employment programme and on status of employment, among others.

While presenting the committee’s observation, the Chairman reported there is a need to review the effectiveness of these programs. He also said various agencies need to coordinate and work collectively towards employment generation.

He also said due to mismatch in the demand and supply of human resource there is a need to chart out long term human resource development plans and also to work on the salaries paid to non-desk workers.

The members also the government should provide land on lease to those who choose to work in farms.

Other recommendations include developing skills of the youth, especially in technical field. The recommendations will be looked into by the committee and the final report will be presented and deliberated in the winter session of the parliament.
