Government questioned on three new collegesBoomdeling-Jamkhar MP, Dupthob asked the government on the status of their pledge to construct three new colleges in the East as part of the “Rising East”, Programme.

In absence of education minister, during the question hour in the National Assembly, the Home and Cultural Affairs Minister, Damcho Dorji said the opportunities will be given to the private individuals to establish colleges in the east.

He said if private individuals do not turn up, the government would look into converting some of the existing Institutes as the colleges.

The North Thimphu MP, Kinga Tshering said that establishing three colleges would take more time. He said government should focus more on increasing intake capacity of the current colleges like Sherubtse.

Lyonpo Damcho Dorji said they are also looking into expansion of Sherubtse College.
