Opposition member questions PMPangbang MP, Dorji Wangdi questioned the Prime Minister why only a handful of People’s Democratic Party supporters are benefitting from Meet-the-People programme.

PDP had pledged to meet with the people once a week during while campaigning for 2013 elections. Over a thousand people have attended 82 Meet-the-People programmes conducted until now.

“…the government still continues to use government machinery, time, and resources to conduct this program including power and authority of the Prime Minister and Cabinet Ministers to address the people’s request, petition and grievances. The general public are not able to derive benefit from it except a handful of PDP supporters.”

MP Dorji Wangdi also said the Prime Minister, during last session, stated that it is Party’s initiative and it is for party members.

Lyonchhen Tshering Tobgay said the allegation is not true. He said if he wanted to meet PDP supporters, he can meet them anytime. This program is for those from socially disadvantaged background, he added.

“I never said this is PDP’s initiative. I always said it is the government’s initiative.”
