His Majesty graces parliament’s opening session

His Majesty graces parliament’s opening session-His Majesty the King graced the opening of the fifth session of the second parliament, today. His Majesty was accompanied by Her Majesty the Gyaltsuen.

Upon arrival at the courtyard, His Majesty and Her Majesty were received in traditional Chipdrel ceremony. His Majesty and Her Majesty were received by the Prime Minister, National Assembly Speaker, Opposition Leader, National Council Chairperson, Cabinet Ministers and the Members of Parliament.

The National Assembly Speaker, Jigme Zangpo, on behalf of the parliamentarians, thanked His Majesty for gracing the ceremony. The speaker also talked about the massive earthquake that killed nearly 8,000 people in Nepal and the support rendered by Bhutan upon the command of His Majesty the King.

The parliament will deliberate on the Narcotic Drugs, Psychotropic Substances and Substance Abuse Bill, the Local Government Members’ Entitlement Bill, the Bio-safety Bill, the Office of Attorney General Bill and the Tenancy Amendment Bill of Bhutan 2014.

Most importantly the Annual Budget, the State of the Nation report and the Anti-Corruption Commission Annual Report 2014 will be presented in the parliament. The session will end on June 17.
