Finance Sec, Lam Dorji-Restarting lottery businessThe Secretary of the Ministry of Finance, Lam Dorji said restarting lottery business may not be possible in this fiscal year. He was speaking at the mid-year review of annual performance agreement 2014-15, in Thimphu, today.

The lottery business was supposed to be started in December last year.

The Prime Minister, Tshering Tobgay said the government is thinking of making the lottery business better than before. “So, I think it would be better to shift the date to next fiscal year.”

Restarting the lottery business, which was closed by the former government, was one of People’s Democratic Party’s pledges to increase rupee earnings and solve its shortage in the economy.

In the previous government’s tenure, the government-owned lottery business was shut down after allegations of irregularities made by the Kerala state government.
