PM asks finance ministry to work on LG budget allocationTo have a clear picture of how money is being invested in the gewogs, the Prime Minister, Tshering Tobgay has asked the Ministry of Finance to work on budget allocation of the Local Government for 2015-16.

Lyonchhen said it is not clear how the budget is being utilised for development activities in the gewogs. He said it is essential to know for an equal development of gewogs too.

“Let’s say, when we take a policy decision like all GC roads are going to be built by the Department of Roads, then the gewog should transfer the money back to the DoR. The money should not be with the gewog idly, I don’t this it is going to work that way.”

The Prime Minister said for instance, for medicine procurement, the money from the gewog should be sent back to health. “It is just a matter of a minute or two. So if you have these, I think at gewog level, we know what investments are happening, and once we know that we also know what opportunities are to be created in gewogs.”
