PM-asked-go-ahead-with-construction-at-new-sarpang-townThe Prime Minister, Tshering Tobgay has given the go-ahead signal to construct houses at Sarpang’s new town site, Shechangthang, known as Ranibagan earlier. The news comes in the wake of recent fire disaster that engulfed Sarpang town.

The affected families had requested the Prime Minister to allow them to build temporary houses and shops at the old location.

Lyonchhen said he cannot allow temporary houses and shops to come up at the same location for safety reasons. Instead, he said plot-owners, with land ownership certificates, can proceed with construction works at Shechangthang.

The announcement comes as good news to plot-owners like Amit. “The Prime Minister has promised us to help us within his capacity. Therefore all the thram-holders also must put in some effort.”

But others like Ap Penjor says they should be allowed to avail housing loans. “I have plans to construct a house. The government has already granted us kidu. We would be thankful if they can help us in avail housing loans.”

The new town location at Shechangthang is located along the Sarpang-Tsirang highway.
