Thimphu still tops the list of number of crimes reportedThimphu still tops the list of dzongkhags with a maximum number of crimes reported. “Thimphu has majority of criminal activities given the large population,” said the Chief of Police, Brigadier, Kipchu Namgyel.

In 2014, 891 crimes were reported from Thimphu, more than double of what was reported from Chhukha, the dzongkhag that takes the second position in the list. Third highest crimes were reported from Paro with 182.

However, the overall number of crimes in the country has decreased to 2,775 in 2014 from 3,288 in 2013 shows the crime statement of the Royal Bhutan police, 2014.Least number of crimes reported

Least number of crimes was reported from Trashi Yangtse, Haa and Gasa.

Of the 20 dzongkhags, 12 saw a decrease in the number of crimes.

The five highest crimes reported were battery, larceny, burglary, possession of controlled substance and offence against Ku-Sung-Thuk-Ten.

The five heinous crimes reported were suicide, rape, illegal transaction of controlled substance, homicide and kidnapping.

The Chief of Police said the number of crimes decreased because of extensive sensitisation, public awareness, public participation, establishment of community police centre sand the crime reduction competition among the dzongkhags.
