21 Feb to be observed as National Scouts DayDuring its second annual conference held today at the capital, scout leaders, dzongkhag education officers, teachers, volunteers and thromde officials discussed new initiatives to revitalise scouting programs in the country.

The conference focused on strengthening various scout programmes and set direction for this year by revising the programs of the previous years.

The new initiatives include new revision of frameworks, leadership programmes, national awards and scholarships for students, expansion of dzongkhag scout association and development of scout centres across the country.

It was also decided that henceforth February 21 would be observed as National Scouts Day.

Education Secretary, Sangay Zam, during the conference reminded that scouting was a flagship programme for youth under the patron of His Majesty the King, so it reckoned expansion and diversification.

Director General of the Department of Youth and Sports, Chencho Dorji said to move forward, it was important to look back at the failures and successes of the previous years.

He also said it was necessary to make programs engaging and fun for children.

The theme for this year is innovation, integration and motivation. More than a hundred participants are taking part in the conference.
