Fire-Zobel-Pema GatshelThe forest fire in Zobel Gewog under Pema Gatshel is spreading towards settlement area of Ngangmalang Chiwog.

Forestry and gewog officials, police, locals and school staff are battling the fire that continues to rage for the second day, today.

Pema Gatshel’s Senior Ranger, Lham Dorji said they could save a house that was in the fire’s path.

Our Pema Gatshel correspondent, Thinley Dorji said they are now trying to save the gewog’s office.

However, strong wind keeps fanning the fire and steep terrain is making it difficult to contain it. They are hoping to douse the fire by tomorrow.

The cause of the forest fire is yet to be ascertained.

Sixty four forest fires were recorded in 2013-14 in the country. Wangdue Phodrang Dzongkhag saw the highest number of forest fire with 16 cases, the same year.
