LhakhangKarpoCaseThe first hearing for the Lhakhang Karpo case will be conducted on February 9 in the Haa district court.

Following an order from the Supreme Court yesterday, the Lhakhang Karpo case will be presided over by Haa Drangpon. Chief Justice Tshering Wangchuk said there would not be any conflict of interest although the Drangpon shared spiritual relationship (Dorji Puen) with Foreign Minister Rinzin Dorje, who is one of the party of the case.

He added conflict of interest would only arise if it was something to do with monetary matters or if they were from the same household.

Also, it was deemed expensive should the government send a judge from Thimphu or other neighboring dzongkhags to preside over the case.

The case involves seven individuals including Foreign Minister Rinzin Dorje and other with corruption charges. The office of the Attorney General will prosecute the case against them.
