Thimphu to have specialised courtsThimphu will have its first ever specialised courts in the country in next five years. Under the specialised courts, there will be family and children court that will handle marital issues and other family matters.

There will also be commercial court. Its mandate will be to deal with monetary issues from financial institutions, private firms and individuals.

Criminal court will have the legal duty to solve criminal cases. The civil court will be instituted with the judicial responsibility of tackling general cases like land disputes and defamation cases.

The officials from the Supreme Court of Bhutan said a thorough planning is underway. They said the rationale behind planning to set up specialised courts is to have enabling environment for the judges to carry out their duties efficiently. It is also to provide judgments and verdicts without delays.

After Thimphu, the Supreme Court also intends to set up similar establishment in other places if need be.
