PM meets several key government leaders of India

PM-VP-India-Mohammid Hamid AnsariThe Prime Minister, Tshering Tobgay called on the Vice-President of India, Mohammid Hamid Ansari. The two discussed relations between Bhutan and India.

The Vice-President said no two countries in the world have such good relations as Bhutan and India.

Lyonchhen and Mr. Ansari also discussed democracy and the 11th Five Year Plan.

Lyonchhen also met with the Minister for External Affairs, Sushma Swaraj. They discussed Bhutan-India relations, sub-regional cooperation between Bhutan, Bangladesh, India and Nepal. Economic and security cooperation were also discussed.

The Foreign Secretary, Sujatha Singh also called on the Prime Minister. The two discussed issues of mutual interest, including hydropower, security, and the progress of the 11th Five Year plan.

The Minister of Power, Piyush Goyal also called on the Prime Minister. Mr. Goyal complimented Lyonchhen on his speech at the Vibrant Gujarat summit. He said that this was the beginning of a big relationship.

Lyonchhen said the friendship and camaraderie between India and Bhutan was always between its people.


The two discussed various issues, including Hydropower.

Lyonchhen then met with the members of the India-Bhutan Friendship Association.

Meanwhile, Lyonchhen Tshering Tobgay visited various places in Gujarat including the Amul factory in Gujarat on Monday.

Lyonchhen first visited the Sanskhar Dham School in Ahmedabad. He was given a tour of the school which was established in the 1970’s.

Lyonchhen was greeted by children waving Bhutanese and Indian flags.

Lyonchhen was also presented a sketch by a student who saw him on television during the vibrant Gujarat summit.

Lyonchhen Tshering Tobgay then visited the Amul Factory in Anand city in Gujarat. The Amul Company was started in 1946. It was born out of a diary milk cooperative.

Today, the company collects milk from 3 million farmers. There are 40 diary plants across India.

Amul made India the largest milk generating country in the world. The Management at Amul informed Lyonchhen that their first foreign employee was a Bhutanese, who they recruited last year.

Lyonchhen Tshering Tobgay then visited the Garima Park, the Tata software Consultancy Services Company. The TCS is the largest software export zone in India. It deals with innovative solutions. It employees over 300,000 people and caters to over 119 countries worldwide.

Lyonchhen final visit before leaving for Delhi was the Sabarmati River front park. The river front park was reclaimed after years of degradation.

Lyonchhen is accompanied by his wife, Aum Tashi Doma and daughter, Economic Affairs, Minister Norbu Wangchuk and other senior government officials.
