The export of mandarin from Gelephug has come down to 160 trucks this year from 600 last year. Komal Pradhan, who has been in the export business for the last nine years, said the yield has come down by about 70 percent this year. The low yield has been attributed to citrus disease that has started infecting orange orchard in Sarpang Dzongkhag. The locals fear that unless there is a proper plan in place to tackle the disease, the yield will continue to decrease in coming years.
