Samtse town, that has remained dormant for decades, will see a flurry of activities, starting February this year. The stumbling block, 20 pending land cases, that had stalled the plan from materialising, have been solved earlier this week.
The Samtse Dzongdag, Karma Weezir, said development of Samtse Town is long overdue. He said he is personally committed to see the plans come to fruition. “It is high time that we should accelerate and expedite the implementation of the township of the Samtse Dzongkhag”
Samtse town, established in the late 60s, is one of the oldest towns in the country. The town hasn’t seen any growth since the 90s.
The Dzongkhag Administration will first start with the Local-Area-Plan-one or the main core town area. The initial stage will see survey and demarcation of plots in the core town area.
The Municipal Engineer, Sonam Gyeltshen, said after the survey and demarcation have been completed, they will hand it over to the plot owners. “After completion of this entire task we are expecting to rollout the plan for Samtse Core town.”
The conceptualisation of structural plan of Samtse Core Town had begun in 2004. The structure plan was approved by the government in 2005.
