The government offices and institutions will remain closed tomorrow to observe Nyilo or winter solstice. Nyilo is celebrated as New Year, especially by the people of Wang-Tsho-Chen-Gey.
It is believed to be originated from Wang, the present day Thimphu.
Lolay is sung to commemorate the beginning of an auspicious new year, on the eve of Nyilo.
Nyilo, according to the Bhutanese calendar based on Buddhist astrology, is the first day of winter and the shortest day after which the days start getting longer until the summer solstice.
