JDWNRHThe number of stabbing cases the hospital is receiving is alarming, according to the doctors of the National Referral Hospital in Thimphu. In last ten days, five such cases were referred to Thimphu hospital from across the country.

Doctor Tashi Tenzin, who has been dealing closely with these patients, say majority of the crimes were committed under the influence of alcohol.

BBS spoke to a man who was stabbed by a stranger when trying to stop a scuffle. “Is Bhutan really a safe place?” he questions.

The stabbing cases are charged under battery. Under the Penal Code of Bhutan, a person charged under battery is liable for an imprisonment of one to three years.
