Bernard Philip-Deputy High Commissioner of the Australian High CommissionEducation will continue to be the centrepiece of the Australian Cooperation with Bhutan, said Bernard Philip, the Deputy High Commissioner of the Australian High Commission in New Delhi, India. He said Australia will continue to invest heavily in Bhutan’s educational needs through scholarships programmes.

He was in the country for the Farwell event for Australian awards scholarships recipients held in Thimphu last evening.

Ninety nine Bhutanese will soon leave for Australia to undertake further education including PHD, masters and diploma in various fields under the Australian Government Scholarships. Of the total 99, 52 received Australia Awards, up from 46 last year, while 47 others won Endeavour Award Scholarships.

The Deputy High Commissioner of the Australian High Commission in New Delhi Bernard Philip said Australia remains committed to supporting Bhutan’s educational needs through scholarships.

“We will continue to heavily invest in education, particularly through scholarships programmes, but also through the relationships we build with the institutions like the RIM.”

The Deputy High Commissioner also shared that Australia is open to cooperation in other areas such as building business links between the two countries.

At the farewell event held for the award recipients, the 52 Australia awards recipients received their certificates from the Deputy High Commissioner. And the Endeavour Awards recipients received their certificates from Kimberley McDonald, the Counsellor of the Department of Education and Science with the Australian High Commission in New Delhi.
