Gidawom mining-community representatives summonedIn the latest development of legal battle between the Gidawom community and the mining companies, Thimphu District Court today summoned the community representatives tothe Gidawom mining companies.

The representatives face allegations that they tried to bribe the community on behalf of the mining companies in a bid to stop them from filing a lawsuit against the five mining companies.

The representatives, however, denied the allegations. They said the money was offered, not as a bribe, but as part of the annual contribution that the mining companies make to the community to conduct religious activities.

Former Gup of Mewang Gewog, Tenzin was also summoned as the public clearance for the mining activities were issued during his tenure.

The former Mewang Gup said the agreement on the public clearance was drawn in the presence of the community and other local leaders.
