The Child Protection Expert Committee of Zhung Dratshang observed the first ever World Day of Prayer and Action for Children in Thimphu, Trongsa, Trashigang and Lhuentse, today.
Of 7,000 monks and nuns in the country, 3,500 are below 18 years old.
In 2009 with the approval from His Holiness the Je Khenpo, the Zhung Dratshang had established a Child Protection Expert Committee with 11 members.
The Wold Day of Prayer and Action was observed with the financial support from UNICEF.
The theme for this year’s programme was stop violence against children.
