Heritage Sites Journal on Archeology expected to strengthen

PM_Archeology in BhutanHeritage Sites Journal on Archeology in Bhutan is expected to strengthen archeological works and help preserve cultural heritage sites in the country.

The Prime Minster, Tshering Togbay and Secretary General of SLSA in Switzerland, Dr. Eberhard Fischer jointly launched the journal, yesterday.

Apart from the publication of journal the Department of Culture, in collaboration with Bhutan Swiss Archeology Project ,also provided trainings; field and classroom, to a selected group of cultural officers, architects, lecturers and technicians.

The trainees were awarded certificates by the University of Zurich in Switzerland yesterday. The trainees conducted survey, inventory and documentation on ruins and other cultural sites in Gasa, Paro, Sarpang, including first ever scientific excavation on the ruins of Drapham Dzong in Bumthang.

It was the initiative of the home ministry to establish archeology section in Bhutan since 2008 with assistance from SLSA, the Swiss Liechtenstein Foundation of Archeological Research Abroad.
