The Dhamngoi Zomdu or the selection procedures for all eight gewogs of Thimphu have been completed. The last Zomdu was conducted at Gyaltala chiwog on Sunday. A total of 46 candidates have been selected by the people to contest for the posts of Gup and Mangmi in the upcoming LG elections. The poll day is on 22nd of next month.

Forty chiwogs of Thimphu saw more than 60  aspiring gups and mangmis during the dhamngoi zomdus.

Among them, 10 were female candidates. Two have been chosen to contest for the Gup elections, while seven have qualified for the Mangmi elections. One did not get selected.

More than 2700 people in Thimphu attended in the Dhamngoi  Zomdus.

Naro Gewog saw the highest percentage of turnouts with almost 68%. About 160 people out of more than 230 registered voters turned up. Chang Gewog had the lowest percentage at 17%. Close to 170 out of more than 970 eligible voters showed up for the selection procedure.

In terms of numbers, Maewang Gewog saw the largest attendance. More than 900 people took part in the Zomdus. The gewog, however, has more than 3000 registered voters. This means the gewog had one of the lowest turnout percentages at 29%.
