India’s President arrives in Bhutan

India's President arrives in BhutanThe President of India, Pranab Mukherjee arrived in the country this morning. The President is on a two-day state visit to Bhutan at the invitation of His Majesty the King. This is his first visit to Bhutan as the President of India.

India's President arrives in Bhutan-His Majesty the King and Her Majesty the Gyaltsuen received the President at the airport.

The Prime Minister Tshering Tobgay, Cabinet Ministers and other senior government officials were also present at the airport to receive the President.

The President was accorded a grand welcome with a ceremonial guard of honour.

President Pranab Mukherjee is accompanied by the Minister of State of Railways, Foreign Secretary and Joint Secretary North among others. En route from Paro to Thimphu, the president was greeted by hundreds of school children waving flags.

Tomorrow, the President is scheduled to deliver an address at the Convention Centre to the ministers, parliamentarians and senior government officials.


The President will launch the Double-Laning of the East-West Highway, a project assisted by the government of India. The President will also launch the School Reform Programme.
