Bhutan-India relation is not rhetoric, says Indian President-The President of India, Pranab Mukherjee, says Bhutan-India relation is not rhetoric but genuinely exemplary.

In an exclusive interview with our Producer, Sonam Ugyen, President Pranab Mukherjee said the relationship is based on mutual trust, confidence and understanding.

The President arrives in Bhutan tomorrow for a two-day state visit.

He has visited Bhutan several times in the past but this is his first visit to Bhutan as the President of India.

President Pranab Mukherjee assumed office as the 13th President of India on the July 25 in 2012.


His political career has spanned over five decades. He was born in a small village of Mirati in Birbhum District of West Bengal in 1935. Pranab Mukherjee acquired a Master’s degree in History and Political Science as well as a degree in Law from the University of Kolkata.He began his career as a college lecturer and journalist.

In 1969, he was elected as the member of Rajya Sabha, the Upper House of the Parliament.

In 1982, he assumed the office as Finance Minister of India and was Leader of the House in Rajya Sabha.

Pranab Mukherjee, 79, has served at different times as Foreign, Defence, Commerce and Finance Minister.

He has extensive diplomatic experience and has served on the Board of Governors of the International Monetary Fund, World Bank, Asian Development Bank and the African Development Bank.

President Mukherjee has also authored several books on the Indian economy and on nation building.

The many awards and honors conferred on him include India’s second highest civilian award, Padma Vibhusan in 2008, the Best Parliamentarian Award in 1997 and Best Administrator in India Award in 2011.
