The court was built at a cost of about Nu.24 MN. The construction began in November 2011 and was completed in May, this year. It was funded by the Bhutanese government.

The Supreme Court’s Registrar, Tshering Dorji said they have completed 11 dzongkhag courts and 11 dungkhag courts. He said they now have to finish seven dzongkhag courts and four dungkhag courts.

The construction of new structural courts began since 2003. Tshering Dorji said the first phase of the constructions was covered through Denmark government’s assistance. Then, there was joint funding from the government of Switzerland and Austria and again independent funding from Austrian government.

His Royal Highness Gyeltshab granted audience and also served lunch to over a thousand people including guests, drangpons of the six eastern regions and the people.

The Chief Justice, Sonam Tobgay, was also present during the ceremony.
