HM Gyaltsuen graces Ozone Day celebration for Bhutan. Her Majesty the Gyaltsuen officially launched the Water Regulation 2014 coinciding with the ozone day today. The regulation for water encompasses all the legal norms that will effectively implement the country’s Water Act at all levels.

Launching of water regulations means it is high time we manage water and its sources properly. With water scarcity hitting many parts of the country due to development and climate change, it is now all about sustainable harvesting of water.

The Secretary of the National Environment Commission Secretariat says, phasing out ozone depleting substances have helped to protect ozone layer and contributed significantly towards addressing climate change.

Ozone layer refers to a region of earth’s stratosphere that absorbs most of the sun Ultra Violet radiation. Chloroflurocarbon cause damage to the Ozone layer. Chloroflurocarbon is a gas mostly used in refrigerators and air conditioners.

Her Majesty the Gyaltsuen also launched Sustainable Consumption and Production programme of Bhutan. The programme is about green office operation– meaning using no paper in offices and procurement of environmental-friendly public products. The programme also includes sustainable tourism where hotels produce no wastes.
