The Bhutan Agriculture and Food Regulatory Authority (BAFRA) officials in Phuentshogling seized and disposed frozen chicken items, prawns and expired noodles worth over Nu.150,000.
According to the officials, the consignment was imported illegally. The importer neither had an import permit nor a valid trade license.
It was brought from Kolkata to Phuentshogling.
Initially, the residents living in the building, where the consignment was stored, lodged a complaint with Phuentshogling Thromde over a foul smell emitting from the building. The complaint was then forwarded to the BAFRA officials.
As per the law, an importer must have an import trade license and a certified permit from BAFRA for the frozen items.
