Rinchen Kuenphen Primary Schoo- model school adopting sustainable practicesAccording to a non-governmental organisation, Rinchen Kuenphen Primary School in Thimphu is the model school working towards being resource efficient and adopting sustainable practices for the school development.

It has helped the school to incur minimum expenses compared to its past years. The Sustainable and Efficient Industrial Development Project is a NGO which works towards contributing sustainable development in the country.

Rinchen Kuephen Primary School initially started their effort by trying to become plastic-free school. With such initiative proving a stepping stone to success, the school was driven even more to work to realise this goal.

One man’s trash is other man’s treasure. Starting from brooms to jewelries made out of trash, the school has now everything in store.

The school has plans to sell the plastic bags made of trash. They will also construct a Green Children Park to generate revenue to help them continue with their programmes. The school also started herbal garden with its own funding to educate the students on the medicinal values of the plants.
