ExplosiveRoom-GelegphuExplosives worth about Nu.100,000 has been lying in a room near the Jigme Chhoeling Gewog Centre in Sarpang Dzongkhag for the last seven months. A few people, living nearby, say it undermines their safety.

The caretaker and his family and the Gewog Engineer live in rooms adjacent to the room where the explosives are kept. At the back, the RNR extension officer, livestock, Agriculture and forest officers live. The officials did not want to comment.

But, sources have confirmed that a letter was put up to the gewog administration asking to shift the explosives to another place, four months ago.

However, no action has been taken.

The explosives were bought while constructing the Chungshing farm road in 2012.

The issue was put up during the eighth Dzongkhag Tshogdu held in July this year. The gewog proposed to surrender the explosives to the Dzongkhag administration. The meeting resolved that the explosive should be sold to contractors or other gewogs requiring it within two weeks. Another alternative was to return it from where they bought.

However the gewog failed to comply with the resolution and could not decide where to dispose the explosives safely.
