Adulterated fuel ruined their vehicle, claim cab drivers

adulteratedFuel-Paro.Over a dozen cab drivers in Paro cleaned their car engines, yesterday. They claim the petrol, they used to fuel their car with, was adulterated.

A few cab drivers say their cars started giving problems, especially in the morning, when they couldn’t start them. Only later, after replacing several parts, they say, they found the problem was with the fuel.

The taxi drivers said they met with the fuel agents earlier, today. They also claim the agents admitted they might have mixed up the fuel tanks while filling up the cars. They said the office has agreed to bear the repairing costs and refill their vehicles.

The manager of the fuel depot was out of station.

The person-in-charge at the time, Thujee Lhamo, said she does not know the details. She said a group of drivers came by in the morning claiming the fuel was tampered with.

“They were all taxi drivers with the complaint, no private car owners. And we told them that if we had made the mistake we would compensate them. As soon as we got the complaint we checked our fuel here but we found no problem,” said Thujee Lhamo

The taxi drivers said they put up a complaint with the Road Safety and Transport Authority (RSTA) after they were unable to locate a trade officer.

The RSTA, however, does not have jurisdiction over this. The trade office in Thimphu, which also looks after Paro Dzongkhag says they carry out lab tests if they receive written complaints on such matters.
