SunkoshTownPlanningPeople in Sunkosh under Dagana Dzongkhag are frustrated due to the long overdue town planning at Sunkosh. Constructions have been kept on hold for more than a decade now.

Fifteen plots were allocated to the people of Sunkosh town in 2002. Since then, people started gathering materials for the construction of buildings. But even today, their dreams have not materialised.

According to the Tsangkha Gup, Dorji, they have requested the former government to consider Sunkosh town planning but in vain.

“We have again discussed the matter and it has been sent to the notice of the present government,” says the Gup.

People say that the issue with regard to Sunkosh town planning was raised during the previous Dzongkhag Thsogdue but nothing has been decided so far.

The Sunkosh Tshogpa, Karpi Dorji, said it has been over a decade now since the residents have been collecting construction materials like stone and timber.

Meanwhile, the Dzongkhag Engineer, Jamyang Dorji said that the construction was withheld because the town planning area would get submerged as a result of the upcoming Sunkosh Hydropower project.

However, he said that they are waiting further directives from the Ministry of Economic Affairs whether to let the town development activities go ahead or not.
