Tshogkorna caught in the middle

PunakhaDt-ThsogkornaChiwog Although Tshogkorna Chiwog falls under Barp Gewog in Punakha, locals have to travel to Wangdue Phodrang for most administrative works. This, the villagers say, is taxing and uncalled-for.

The issue was raised by Barp Gup at a recent Dzongkha Tshogdu meeting in Punakha.

Although Tshogkorna village falls under Barp Gewog in Punakha, it was electrified and given telephone connection by Wangdue Phodrang Dzongkhag.

Electricity Bill

As a result, people of Tshogkorna village travel to Bajo in Wangdue Phodrang to pay their electricity bills.

On the other hand, the Bhutan Power Corporation says it will entail a lot of money to move the connection to Punakha as it was installed in Wangdue Phodrang from before.

Telephone Bills

The problem does not end here. Tshogkorna also shares the same telephone numbers as Thimphu. The Barp Gup said this can cause tariff differences even from local calls.

Meanwhile, Bhutan Telecom’s Manager in Punakha said they will verify the call rates and look into the matter soon.

For now, the Dzongkha Tshogdu left the issue to be discussed between the local leaders of Barp Gewog, the Bhutan Telecom and the Bhutan Power Corporation of Wangdue Phodrang and Punakha.
