PM meets UNESCAP Under Secretary

PM-UNESCAP-DrShamshad Akhtar. (Picture Story): Prime Minister Tshering Tobgay and the Bhutanese delegation met Dr. Shamshad Akhtar, the Under Secretary of the United Nations and Executive Secretary of the UN Economic and Social Commission for the Asia and the Pacific at the UN Conference Centre in Bangkok.

The meeting was held on the sidelines of the 70th session of the UNESCAP.

Lyonchen had also met the Foreign Minister and the Minister of Environment and Green Development of Mongolia and Myanmar’s Deputy Director of Transport and the Parliamentary Vice-Minister for Foreign Affairs of Japan.

Prime Minister assumed the Chairmanship of the 70th session on Thursday. As Chairman, Lyonchhen will guide the work of the Commission and represent ESCAP’s 62 member states for a period of one year.

ESCAP is the most comprehensive of the UN’s five Regional Commissions and the largest UN body serving the Asia and the Pacific region, home to 4.1 billion people.
