Prioritising maternity leaveSince 2008 the government has been emphasising that mothers should exclusively breastfeed their babies for the first six months. However, the government at the moment grants maternity leave for only three months for the working mothers.

Therefore, it has been challenge for the mothers to regard the government’s advice for the well-being of their babies.

For the time being, the government has plans to increase the duration of maternity leave, along with flexi-time, which will allow the working mothers to work as per their conveniences.

Meanwhile, the Health Ministry has submitted a proposal to the cabinet on why maternity leave should be extended from the current duration.
