Being a bordering town, Phuentshogling sees a lot of legal and illegal transactions of moveable antiques or cultural properties. Therefore, it is important for the locals to be aware of the laws and other aspects related to this.
Accordingly, the Ministry of Home and Cultural Affairs conducted an awareness programme with the residents of Phuentshogling town, yesterday.
The participants were made aware of the Movable Cultural Property Act of Bhutan, 2005.
They were also briefed on registration of privately owned valuable cultural items and its benefits.
According to the official from the ministry, registering privately owned valuable cultural items would help the owner of the item in authenticating the ownership during cases like loss or illegal transactions.
The participants were also sensitised on sale, purchase and transfer procedures of valuable cultural items.
So far, such awareness programme has been held in Paro and Chhukha. It will be held in other dzongkhags soon.
