The total number of hepatitis cases in the country has increased during the past two years. From 313 in 2012, last year, the figure has now increased to 369.

According to the Health ministry, it has become a disease to be concerned about as 21 more cases were detected in March, this year.

Therefore, to create awareness on the disease, the ministry observed the World Hepatitis Day in Gaeddu, yesterday.

It was observed with the students and faculty of Gaeddu College of Business Studies.

The health officials said, the prevalence rate in the country is 5.9 percent which indicates that 6 out of every hundred Bhutanese people have hepatitis.

Hepatitis is a liver related disease and is mostly caused by virus.

As a preventive measure, the health ministry started with Hepatitis vaccination for infants since 1996.
