Administrative slipup plagues people of Chong-Geykha

CensusRecord-Chong-GeykhaPeople of Chong-Geykha Village under Chhukha Dzongkhag have been suffering the consequences of administrative slipup for the last six years. While their census is under Geling Gewog, their land is registered under Phuentsholing Gewog.

Speaking at the recent Dzongkhag Yargey Tshogdu, Geling Gup, Phub Dorji said the people of his gewog have to visit two different gewog administrations to complete formalities while availing loans or permits for timber.

Land belonging to 28 households in Chong-Geykha village were registered under Phuentsholing Gewog during the delimitation for electoral process. “People want to divide their landholdings amongst the siblings. However, they do not want to forgo their ancestral home and register it in a different gewog,” said the Gup.

The Land Record Officer of Chhukha, Nidup, said Chong-Geykha is not the only village facing such problems. “It is not necessary for people to have census where their land is and it is also not possible to shift thrams from one place to another.”

The Tshogdu’s Chairperson stated that since the issue is about delimitation, it is not within their scope to decide the matter. It was decided that the issue will be submitted to be tabled during the winter session of Parliament.
