Unequal and uneven distribution of LPGs and Kerosene-National Council. The distribution of Liquefied Petroleum Gas (LPG) and superior kerosene oil in the country is unequal and unreliable. Discussing the matter at the National Council today, members felt the need for an immediate policy framework to solve the uneven distribution of energy in the different Dzongkhags.

LPGs and superior kerosene oil are subsidised by the government of India to benefit the people of Bhutan. However, the Economic Affairs Committee of the National Council reports that the subsidies have failed to reach some of the targeted beneficiaries.

When assessing Dzongkhag wise, Thimphu topped the consumption of LPG while Samdrup Jongkhar consumed the most superior kerosene oil.

The Economic Affairs Committee said that recommendations will need to be submitted to the government to frame a policy immediately for equal in all parts of the country.

The yearly quota for Bhutan is 8,400 metric tonnes of LPG and 15,000 Kilolitres of kerosene in a year.
