The government will construct 2,558 Kilometres of new farm roads and 257 new irrigation channels in the 11th Five Year Plan (FYP). It was revealed in the National Assembly today after the government was questioned on the lack of farm roads and irrigation channels in rural areas.
MP Karma Tenzin of Wamrong constituency in Trashigang questioned the agriculture minister of whether the government would construct any new farm roads or not.
MP Dophu Dukpa from Punakha requested the government to share its plans regarding construction of new irrigation channels across the nation.

Lyonpo Yeshey Dorji said that in order to be a self-sufficient nation addressing these issues would be a top priority.
While lack of irrigation and farm road facilities was an issue across most of the constituencies, MP Dorji Wangdi said the government should first focus on the least developed ones.
The shortage of safe drinking water in various constituencies was also expressed in the House. However, due to time constraint not all the queries were answered.
