4 Chevening Scholarships for Bhutan every year

Bhutan-UK Alumini AssociationThe United Kingdom will offer four Chevening Scholarships to Bhutan every year from the next academic session. The announcement was made by the UK’s Foreign Minister, Right Honourable Hugo Swire, the first British minister ever to visit Bhutan.

The minister also inaugurated the Bhutan-United Kingdom Alumni Association along with His Royal Highness Prince Jigyel Ugyen Wangchuck last evening.

His Royal Highness is the Royal Patron of the Association.


The Honorary Consul of UK to Bhutan, Micheal Rutland, Esq. OBE, said the Association will strengthen and deepen the relationship between the two countries.

Currently, there are more than 200 Bhutanese who had been to various British colleges, universities and training organisations.

Meanwhile, the minister also said that the UK is keen on supporting Bhutan in various areas. He said besides education, tourism and culture the UK would be interested to invest in alternative renewable energy.
