The construction of the 540 MW Amochhu hydropower project will continue, said the Economic Affairs Minister, Norbu Wangchuk. He was answering the question asked by the MPs from Phuentshogling and Dophuchen-Tading constituencies.
The Members of Parliament had questioned the Minister on the status of the project. Media had reported earlier that the project had been shelved.

“Amochhu hydropower is one of the most important projects and talks are underway with the government of India,” said Lyonpo Norbu Wangchuk. He also said construction of Amochhu Hydropower Project will be much easier to construct compared to other hydropower projects.
However, he did not say when exactly the project is likely to begin.
