We will amend the drug law-PM-SherubtseCollege Awareness alone will not do. A more stringent drug law is needed to tackle the country’s rising drug related problem, said Prime Minister Tshering Tobgay. He was responding to the students of Sherubtse College who asked him on how the government plans to deal with the problem.

“We are going to amend the drug law in the third session of the parliament. The law will be made tougher,” said the Prime Minister.

He added the government has already begun a serious crackdown on the drug dealers and abusers and that more than 500 of them have been arrested in the last six months.

Rising drug related problem is an indication of the Bhutanese values degrading and also of the discipline in schools declining, said Lyonchhen. He underscored the importance of exercising self-discipline to stay away from drugs.

Prime Minister urged the students of Sherubtse College not to do drugs and also to advise their friends and families who are into it.

The students also asked the Prime Minister about the government’s economic stimulus plan.
