Forest fire destroys historical documentsHistorical documents belonging to the 16th Century Chungdu Goenpa have been lost to the fire that continues to rage in Wangdue Phodrang.

The forest fire, which started yesterday, has also burnt down the monks’ hostel, Lam’s residence, and a traditional two-storied house.

More than 4,000 acres of forest has been destroyed by the fire which started from Phangyul gewog.

The forest officials, army and local people of Tencholing continue to battle the fire.

Our Bureau Correspondent, Kinzang Thinley, says wind and high ridges are making it difficult to contain the fire.

The cause of the fire is yet to be ascertained.
