READ BhutanThe villagers of Khothagpa in Pema Gatshel are happy with the community library set up in the village by READ Bhutan with support from Druk Satair.

Namgay Wangdi, who is a member of the READ Bhutan centre in Khothagpa village, said the centre has made it possible for him and others to apply for security clearance. He said they are otherwise always busy with never ending farm works and have little time to run around offices.

The centre’s coordinator, Rinchen Choden, says they are focusing not just on library services but on a wide range of other services, such as educating the locals on various issues such as women’s rights and health andREAD Bhutan- education related issues.

Given its benefits, the people of Khothagpa are taking the centre seriously. They have already formed a committee, which would work towards strengthening the centre.

The community centre has a collection of about 1,500 books at the moment. They are expecting another thousand plus books to arrive soon.
