Hundreds of job seekers, from all over the country, come and visit job fairs in Thimphu. Job fairs have become an annual event in Bhutan. The 11th Job Fair, which opened today, had graduates who were attending it for the third year in a row.
The Director of the Department of Employment’s, Jamayang Galley, said 32 percent of graduate who had come for the last year’s job fair were employed.
Our reporter, Tenzin Rabgay, who was at the fair, said there were 32 stalls at the event. These stalls promised overseas job opportunities. “The problem was many of these companies had only future job prospects,” he found out.
There were also magazines, consultancies, Industries, Security, a Bank, IT and more at the fair. But the ones that had immediate openings offered less pay.
Some of the stalls didn’t even have a single job to offer. They were there for training opportunities and a bit of marketing.
Meanwhile, the Ministry of Labour and Human Resources doesn’t know how graduates are still unemployed.
Today’s fair cost the government Nu. 350,000 to hire the tents. Another Nu.30,000 was spent for the gate and about 40,000 for other preparations.
The labor minister, Ngeema Sangay Tshenpo, opened the fair.
